Foxbridge
-
Commenced stud duties at Trelawney Stud, Cambridge 1935 Foxbridge dominated the Australasian racing world for more than two decades.
After claiming his first New Zealand sires’ title in the 1940-41 season he went on to smash all records and win 11 successive sires’ premierships and was also the champion New Zealand sire of broodmares on 11 occasions.
It was common place for the British-bred stallion’s progeny to win half the card at northern race meetings.
His progeny could sprint and stay, handle wet tracks and firm ground with equal aplomb and were mostly, like Foxbridge himself, dark brown or black in colour. His daughters went on to become great broodmares in their own right to create a true dynasty.
By the time the last of the Foxbridges finished racing in the late 1950s his stock had amassed more than a million pounds and not only broken all New Zealand records but also made him champion British Empire sire.
