Learn Ako

Fun learning experiences for school visits, classroom sessions, heritage walks and for families at home.

Schools and educators

Cambridge Museum is developing new learning resources and experiences to support the New Zealand Curriculum | Te Mātaiaho, including the refreshed Social Sciences learning area.

These will include opportunities to:

  • investigate real museum objects as historical evidence
  • compare historic and contemporary photographs of Cambridge
  • explore maps and discover how our town and landscape have changed
  • investigate the stories behind local buildings, streets and places
  • work with photographs, documents, oral histories and other primary sources
  • explore different perspectives on Cambridge and Waipā history
  • develop the skills of a historian by questioning, interpreting and evaluating evidence.

Resources will be designed for different age groups and will support both museum visits and classroom learning.

Cambridge is our classroom

We also want students to discover that history is not confined to a museum display case.

It can be found in the names of our streets, the buildings we walk past, the landscape around us, family stories, photographs, archaeological evidence and the objects people have chosen to keep.

Our aim is to use the Cambridge Museum collection and the town itself to help young people investigate how Cambridge became the place it is today.
