Charles Hunter ONZM
    -

Charles Hunter was a 1960s and 1970s harness driver and trainer.  He remains one of the most successful trainers to have competed in harness racing.

He won his first Inter Dominion Final in 1971 when he trained and drove Geffin to win the trotters series.

Four years later, at Alexandra Park in Auckland, Hunter became the first (and to date only) trainer to secure both titles in the same year, winning the Trotters Final with Castleton’s Pride, and taking out the Pacers Final with a horse he labelled as the best he has trained: Young Quinn.

With Young Quinn he went on to win races in Australia, Canada and the USA.

In 2019 Hunter received a distinguished service award from the Inter Dominion Event Committee that organises the foremost harness racing competition in Australia and New Zealand.
