Might and Power
-
Might and Power was rated the world’s champion stayer of 1997 after his exciting wins in the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup of that year. He had a reputation for leading all of the way and running his rivals ragged with breath-taking exhibitions of pure speed. That made him tremendously popular with racegoers. His Caulfield Cup win was a superb demonstration of his galloping talents. He annihilated his rivals with a winning margin of seven-and-a-half lengths and ran a race and track record time for the 2400m trip of 2:26.25. It was a performance seldom seen on an Australasian racetrack. When he won the highly competitive 1998 Cox Plate over 2040m at Moonee Valley, a race regarded as the weight-for-age championship of Australasia, with another powerhouse display of galloping Might And Power became the first horse since Rising Fast in 1954 to complete the Caulfield Cup-Melbourne Cup-Cox Plate treble.
