Vice Regal
    -

Commenced stud duties at Chequers Stud, Cambridge 1979, one of Australasian racing’s most versatile and genuine racehorses ever, Vice Regal played a big part in breaking down the prejudice local broodmare owners held against colonial New Zealand sires as he carved for himself an equally outstanding record at stud. In four seasons of racing in the late 1970s, Vice Regal compiled an amazing record on the racetrack on both sides of the Tasman for owner-trainer Jim Campin. He was a totally genuine performer winning or being placed in 35 of his 60 starts. He won 21 races at distances from 1200m to 2600m on track conditions which ranged from slow to fast proving his wonderful versatility. As a sire his Group 1 winners included Vite Cheval, All Glory, Reganza, Eva Grace and Colonial Chief and he became instrumental in putting Jim Campin’s Chequers Stud in Cambridge on the map as a successful international thoroughbred breeding operation.
