Young Quinn
-
If every pacer could be provided with his own moniker, none would be so apt for New Zealand’s Young Quinn as “Mr Powerhouse”. Later campaigning successfully in America where he won a host of races, “The Mighty Quinn” raced his way into the hearts of Australian harness racing enthusiasts in one scintillating presentation, his powerful carriage and undeniable talent dispensing with his opposition in almost ridiculously easy fashion. In the 1974-75 season Young Quinn recorded the most number of wins in a New Zealand season 19 as he blitzed one field after another. At the 1975 Interdominion Pacing Championships at Alexandra Park, Auckland, Young Quinn devastated his opposition with wins in each of his heats and then putting the icing on the cake with a marvellous winning performance to take out the Grand Final the holy grail for Australasian pacer-demonstrating his superiority against the best harness racing talent available at the time.
