The piano on display is one of the oldest in New Zealand. This video gives us an idea of how it would have sounded.

Maria Arnold brought with her when she sailed from Australia to New Zealand in January 1865. It was a home comfort.

Pianos played a major part of family entertainment, especially before gramophones, radio and television.
